LABOR IN CRISIS.
  Wed, 12 August 2009. 7:05 pm

With the total arrogance of a drunken mob out of control Labor has lurched from crisis to crisis. Since Paul Lennon the rot has crumbled the foundations of Labor. They have wasted valuable opportunities and buckets of our money on mickey mouse go nowhere projects and covering up their balls ups, which are too numerous to mention here.

Photo opportunities are passe' and folks are sick to death of seeing cops, firey's and the Premier take every opportunity to get their mugs in the press. Slick Willy politics eventually runs out of puff. Labor has failed to tackle the real social issues. Unlike their Labor predecessors who embraced the challenges of meaningful social reform this batch has avoided it as if it were a poisonous snake.

Prefering to look up beat and populist they have instead tried to project themselves as economic gurus. Predictably they also failed on that score. The hospital plans ,new Water Board, Ralphs Bay,Pulp Mill antics, Nurses pay blue, Polytechnic fiasco, Railways purchase,Forestry, and countless other black holes.

Politics on the run, personality politics, politics of division, politicising the bureaucracy, and politics of self survival are sure fired recipies for electoral defeat. Labors own vision of itself is borderline Narcistic, which is dangerous for any political party...(Just ask John Howard!) Six months out from an election is too late to mend fences, so short of pulling a rabbit out of his hat David Bartlett now looks a bit like road kill.

The sad irony is that over the life of Labor starting with Big Jim, they have had a bloody fortune in GST, yet they never appreciated the opportunity that came flooding in when huge revenues flowed . The same problems that existed when they took office still remain, except the atmosphere seems more repressive. The scandals, affairs, and lack of action on social reforms have further marginalised and penalised those citizens which government is meant to protect.

The health dept was supposed to revitalise under new leadership, early intervention for at risk children didn't happen, secrecy replaced openess, and the social landscape became more repressive and bland. Negativity was rolled out with yet more punitive action and the spin ,tough talk, and general bollocks just got worse & worse.

Governments don't get elected on polling day ,they get thrown out. A lesson somebody forgot to tell the replacement Premier. He has had long enough to stamp his authority on the bureaucracy ,but has failed to show that he in fact can control the "Big Beast" that is self serving and ever expanding......
